Standard Bank to Invest Up to $200 Million in Nigeria's OPay as Fintech Eyes New York Listing
12 October 2026 | 1 min read

Standard Bank Group, Africa's largest bank by assets, has agreed to invest up to $200 million in Nigerian fintech OPay capped at a 4.99% stake. The investment depends on OPay's planned New York Stock Exchange offering going ahead and receiving approvals. OPay filed registration documents with US regulators on Friday, October 9.
According to its filing, OPay had 50.1 million monthly active users at the end of July 2026. First-half revenue more than doubled to $467.1 million, and net income reached $90.9 million. Standard Bank operates in 21 African markets, and the two companies plan to explore digital banking, payments and financial services across them.
Few African fintechs have reached international public markets. OPay's listing will test investor appetite for African digital finance, while Standard Bank's involvement shows established lenders looking to technology companies for growth.
